AUN Community Service
The AUN Community Service Office was born out of the University’s commitment to being a good neighbor and friend to the people of Yola and Jimeta. It also reflects our strong belief that an integral part of the education at AUN is to help our students understand the society in which we live, and to learn how to contribute to the welfare of that society. At the Community Service Office, we provide various opportunities and assistance for students, faculty, and staff to perform community service and volunteer work in and around Yola. Through these efforts, we believe that AUN will be able to establish a lasting impact on our surrounding community, and to cultivate the qualities of good citizenship in our own.
Each semester a number of opportunities are presented to the AUN community for
self-selected volunteering.
Whether it is tutoring children, helping adults in literacy programs, cleaning up nearby recreational facilities, painting classrooms, assisting the disabled, teaching computer skills to young people, or improving the lives of prisoners, the people of AUN are working to make a better Nigeria.
The benefits of community service that our volunteers provide are reciprocal. Each project creates a learning opportunity for everyone involved, an introduction to a part of life they hardly knew existed. Many of our students tell us that volunteering has changed their lives.
